Hybrid Pathway
What the Hybrid Pathway offers
The ISB Hybrid pathway is a learning pathway that supports students to mix and match ISB, AP and IB courses over their four years of high school. This pathway allows students to tailor their education to specific goals and aspirations for higher education and beyond. Students taking an AP or IB course are required to take the corresponding exam for each course.
- Students can mix and match courses to suit their academic strengths, interests, and college/career goals
- Combining both pathways allows students to experience different teaching styles, pacing, and perspectives, creating a well-rounded high school education
Hybrid Pathway Ideas
Aidan (G12): When it came to planning my high school pathway, I knew I wanted flexibility and a wide range of options to explore my interests. Combining IB and AP courses gave me the perfect opportunity to do just that. With this mix, I was able to take courses like IB Business Management and AP Comparative Government and Politics, which align perfectly with my passion for understanding the dynamics of business and politics on a global scale. This pathway has been great for me because it allowed me to tailor my learning to my strengths and interests while keeping my options open for U.S. college applications.
Elijah (made-up): Elijah is a young entrepreneur and is really interested in the world of business. Having already taken two AP courses in Gr10, he decides to take 6 more APs including AP Macro and AP Micro as a Gr11-12 student which he will use to apply to college. However he also chooses to take the two year IB Business Management course at HL. He hopes to highlight his entrepreneurial spirit and passion for the world of business.

The Hybrid Pathway is a flexible academic program that combines IB (International Baccalaureate), AP (Advanced Placement), and ISB-designed courses to create a personalized and rigorous educational experience. This pathway allows students to explore diverse subjects and academic styles, preparing them for success in university and beyond.
Instead of following a single curriculum framework, the Hybrid Pathway takes an interdisciplinary approach that fosters critical thinking, research skills, collaboration, time management, and effective communication—skills essential for college-level learning and modern careers.
Students enrolled in the Hybrid Pathway may take a combination of IB, AP, and ISB courses throughout Grades 10 to 12. Course selection is based on student interest, academic goals, and graduation requirements, and may include a mix of externally assessed programs (such as AP and IB) and internally developed ISB offerings. Students may pursue research, inquiry, or project-based learning opportunities depending on their course choices and program track.
The pathway is structured to give students both the depth of study found in specialized courses and the breadth of learning across multiple disciplines, with flexibility to align with university admissions standards worldwide.
